UPLAND MAP &
RULES
There be water here! Also, on the Ramona Expressway side, there is farmland
on the other side of the road..with quail eating fox holes. Birds flush
pretty far ahead over here. Have not explored the interior. Area is kept up
by QU and Pheasants Forever (thanks guys!) and some other tree hugging
groups. Beware the slow/parked cars on Davis Rd. - those are bird watchers (ya,
watch me plug this quail
) I have enhanced the map to show the hunter areas in red. You must stop in
at the Permit booth (circle on map) which is lonely little box-hut across
the "street" from the big HQ and SJ display boards. You MUST fill out a
permit (free) and carry it with you. PS...bring a pencil/pen - it sucks not
being able to fill out the permit. When you are done hunting, you are
supposed to turn in your card back at this spot.
There are also special Monday Only Pheasant hunts. The next dates are: Nov
11, 18, 25, Dec. 2, 9, 7, & 16. Here is the
Pheasant Hunting Reservation and Information.
There are some hurdles to jump through, so read carefully. Day use for
pheasant and waterfowl is $13. Annual is $101. Reservation cards for 1 day
hunts are $1.05, 5 day hunts are $5.25, per application card. Must be
submitted 17 days before your requested hunt day. Each reservation is good
for up to 2 adults and 2 juniors (max). The "cards" are avail from Hunting
Licensing Agents (sporting good stores) through the "Waterfowl Reservation
System". Just enter the San Jacinto Pheasant dates on the back of the card,
supposedly the license branch will decipher the difference between waterfowl
and pheasant) You can also call (909) 928-0580 for more info! Jeez, you want
me to do all of your homework for you???
Lastly, San Jacinto will also be offering a Junior Pheasant hunt on Sunday
Nov 10th, 2002. Here is the
Application. Deadline is Nov. 4th, 2002. No late apps or walk-ins
allowed!
**Update on forms for San Jacinto
I just went to Big 5 and they had no idea what I was talking about. 2
managers, and asst. mngr and a cashier later and they all decided that i
needed an "Adventure Pass". I got the San jacinto DFG on the phone (see #
above) and they set them straight. Big 5 did not ahve them. I drove over to
the WalMart in West Covina on Azusa and was able to pick up a "Five Choice
Application to Hunt on State-Operated Wildlife Area" for $5.25**
