Our Simplified Wedding

Well, the plan is for us to have an Engagement Dinner for the immediate family, which at last count is around 40 people.  We've decided to nix the Tea Party for Ted's family, as it would require a lot of running around and logistics, since Ted's parents are divorced and live at opposite ends of Los Angeles.  Besides, they aren't Chinese, so we would not be stepping on tradition.

We will, however follow through with the Dowry Day for Kim's family.  Kim's mom has given me the shopping list and we will purchase the goods for delivery the Sunday before the wedding.  The groomsmen are invited to this event to help Ted deliver the goodies.  Mom has specifically asked for dried shark fin, scallops, mushrooms, giant fungus, swallow spit (yes, the spit from those birds that return to Capistrano each year - umm yummy - not), and maybe some dried oyster.  Then for the family portion, a BBQ suckling pig and pastries for a around 10-12 families.

When the wedding day rolls around, Ted will arrive around 12 noon with his groomsmen to pick up Kim and the girls.  As the bridesmaids have stated, bring lots of cash.   They definitely don't want to miss out on making fools out of the guys to prove Ted's love for Kim.  We are planning on keeping the fun and games to a maximum of 20 minutes.  The bridesmaids can make the guys sing songs, do push ups, pay cash - whatever, and that's the scary part.

The wedding will be a traditional western wedding officiated by Kim's pastor Dr. Murphy Lum of the First Chinese Baptist Church in Fountain Valley.  Our service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles.  It will be 4:00 wedding with a traditional Chinese banquets immediately following at Ocean Star Seafood in Monterey Park.

The bridesmaids will be wearing midnight blue dresses with a satin wrap.  Kim will wear a western wedding dress for the service and then change two or three times at the banquet.  Family members will wear the traditional red ribbons instead of boutonnieres.
